Thank you for reading my poetry!
This poem was written in the fall of 2022, and along with the poem “To a Beautiful Chinese Muse”, it was inspired by the female character of my novel “An Intoxicating Combination of Hot (Coffee and Sex)”. When previously introducing that poem I noted that “many things could be said about her, but I do not want to spoil your reading of the novel hence I hope that as was the case while I was writing the poem, you can grasp a glimpse of her while reading it”, and to share this poem with you, I would repeat those same words.
THIRTEEN DAYS IN LOVE, BUT WE WERE NOT
Mi amor,
I just woke up,
and after listening to the songs,
in those videos that you shared while I was asleep,
my heart, forever romantic, aches,
not only because,
their lyrics are so beautiful,
but because,
after everything we have lived together in these last thirteen days,
I should be telling you things like that,
or you must be telling them to me,
or we should both be telling them to each other,
but we are not,
and then just now,
I felt so afraid that one day,
and sadly, it might be rather sooner than later,
I will wake up again,
and you won’t be here anymore,
and all that is there are those songs,
reminding me of you,
of how you made me feel,
of the beautiful times and moments,
we lived together these last thirteen days,
and of the things that I should have said to you,
and I did not.
